Mikel Arteta admits it is a “big” concern that Bukayo Saka has suffered his second hamstring injury in the space of nine months as Arsenal seek to discover the root cause of the issue.

Saka tore his right hamstring in December last year and had to undergo surgery, ruling him out of action for three months.

The England winger recovered from that setback, but suffered a left hamstring injury during last week’s 5-0 win over Leeds.

Saka will not need an operation this time, but will miss Sunday’s trip to Liverpool and is set for a few weeks on the sidelines.

And asked if Saka getting another hamstring injury was a concern, Arteta said ahead of the clash at Anfield: “Yes, it is obviously a big one.

“Especially when we talk about a sprinter, a player that gets into that zone very often in a football match that needs that burst, that change of rhythm, of pace, to be as threatening as possible.

“But, yeah, we will learn again why it happened, make him stronger. And, unfortunately injuries are part of your career.

“He hasn’t had that many to be fair, with the amount of games that he’s played at his age. But it’s something that we want to eradicate, for sure.”

Arsenal have more huge games coming up after the international break, including clashes with Newcastle and Manchester City, and Saka will want to be involved in those matches.

“Bukayo is doing better, but he will be out for a few weeks unfortunately,” said Arteta. “No surgery.

“It is not as bad as the previous one (injury). Obviously he is very unfortunate to pick it up, it is on the other side [to his previous injury].

“It is an action that requires full power from him, then he clashes with the opponent. He needs to change pace again and he felt something.

“So, he will be out for a couple of weeks. Let’s see how he evolves in the next few days and weeks, repeat the scan and see where he is at.”
