Arsenal did not receive the injury update they were hoping for as Bukayo Saka is set to miss this weekend’s hugely important meeting with Liverpool.

The two clubs will face off at Anfield on Sunday in a match that could give either side an early advantage in the race for the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta would have been hoping to have a fully fit squad for the trip to Merseyside, but he will have to do without Saka, and possibly even captain Martin Odegaard too.

Saka was forced off the pitch with a hamstring injury early in the second half of Arsenal‘s 5-0 win over Leeds United last weekend.

Arteta revealed in Friday’s press conference that the winger’s injury is not as serious as the one that required surgery and kept him out for several months. He will not need to go under the knife this time, but he will be sidelined “for weeks”.

“Bukayo is doing better, but he will be out for a few weeks. No surgery,” the Basque native said.

“It’s not as bad as the previous one, very unfortunate. It was an action that required full power from him, had to change direction and he felt something.”

Odegaard also had to come off against Leeds with a shoulder issue and is a doubt heading into the weekend. The Norwegian midfielder has not trained since, but is working hard to make the matchday squad against Liverpool.

“He hasn’t trained yet and, if he does, it will be tomorrow. He is doing everything he can to make himself available.”

Meanwhile, Arteta also confirmed Christian Norgaard, Ben White and Leandro Trossard are all also doubts for Sunday’s match.
