Robert Vilahamn is targeting a strong performance when we face Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Sunday afternoon (2pm UK) in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

We returned to winning ways in the WSL last weekend as Matilda Vinberg’s early strike and her first goal for the Club sealed a 1-0 victory over Leicester City and maintained our push for a top five finish this season.

However, despite picking up maximum points at Brisbane Road, Robert feels his side could have performed better on the day and is looking for an improvement ahead of our trip to Ashton Gate.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Robert said: “There will be pressure to make sure we perform in a good way and show the supporters that we can play really good football.

“We were happy with the win over Leicester City but we were not overly happy with the performance over the 90 minutes, and that was the main thing from our feedback and we want to look better when we play.

“This game will still be important to try and win, however we focus a lot on how we play… we need to play better football as that’s the identity we have at the Club. We are very much going to look at how we perform against Bristol City and how we can score goals and, if we don’t succeed, then we will look at that.”

The Robins have endured a tough campaign on their return to the WSL, registering six points in 16 games, but put in a strong performance against Manchester United last time out, limiting Mark Skinner’s side to two opportunities on goal in which they converted.

So, Robert isn’t looking too much at their position in the table ahead of our clash this weekend and acknowledges the threat they can pose.

“In most of the games, they are competing very well. They have good players and have good strategies to defend, but they have a few mistakes where the opponent score goals. I think that’s quite common for a newcomer in this league to deal with that, but they still have good enough players to hurt us.

“I think they had a good game against Manchester United. I mean, United scored an early goal, but it was quite an even game for large parts. I have enormous respect for them [Bristol City] because they have good players and good tactics. They are trying to do what they can with the squad they have and they are doing it well.”
