Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of American forward Taylor Smith on a loan deal from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Gotham FC.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website in the early hours of this morning. The deal was completed ahead of the winter transfer deadline at 11pm last night.

Smith has spent the last two NWSL seasons with Gotham FC after joining the club from North Carolina Courage. She has made 22 appearances for Gotham FC in the NWSL in which she has scored three goals. Smith is a versatile player who is comfortable in attacking or defensive positions.

After adding Smith to her squad, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips said “We are excited to welcome Taylor to Brighton as our latest January signing.

“Taylor is an experienced player with a competitor’s mindset and brings a wealth of experience from championship winning teams in the NWSL.

“We are eager to help her settle in and see the value she will add to our team for the rest of the season as we aim to climb the table.”

Smith is Brighton & Hove Albion’s second signing of the January transfer window.
