Tottenham were blown away by Brighton on a miserable night at the Amex.

Injuries caught up with a tired-looking Spurs as they missed a chance to move back into the top four.

Brighton took the lead after 11 minutes when Jack Hinshelwood smashed a shot past Guglielmo Vicario.

Vicario then made two good saves to deny Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck but things went from bad to worse for Spurs from there.

Jan Paul van Hecke hit the post with a header from a corner but Dejan Kulusevski then hauled Welbeck down and Brighton were awarded a penalty.

Joao Pedro sent Vicario the wrong way on 24 minutes and if it was not for Vicario and the woodwork then Brighton could have been out of sight by half-time.

James Milner thumped the post and then Vicario made a brilliant save to deny Joao Pedro.

Richarlison did hit the outside of the post at the end of the first half and Spurs showed signs of life at the start of the second half, when Richarlison had a goal disallowed for offside and then fired inches wide before Destiny Udogie was denied by Jason Steele.

Richarlison had another goal ruled out for offside but Pervis Estupinan put the game to bed after 64 minutes with a left-foot thunderbolt from 30 yards out.

Joao Pedro scored again from the penalty spot on 75 minutes.
