Zulte Waregem have announced that they have parted ways with head coach Mbaye Leye. In his place, the side have appointed Frederik D’Hollander, with Davy De Fauw assisting him. Former Standard Liege head coach Leye took over the club in the summer with hopes of avoiding relegation. Unfortunately, the side are currently second bottom in the league with just 23 points from their 29 games. They are four points off of safety.

The club committed to bringing in a number of veteran players in the winter window to help their relegation battle, such as Ruud Vormer. However, with Vormer’s injury, the side were unable to keep up what appeared to be a turnaround in fortunes following the new arrivals. Over the last few weeks, Zulte Waregem faced fellow relegation strugglers Seraing, Oostende and rivals Kortrijk. Draws in all of these games has likely led to the decision to part ways with Leye.

D’Hollander has just five games left of the season to turn things around, starting with an away trip to Standard Liege at the weekend. The former Zulte Waregem player has been in charge of the second team this season.
