Getafe have completed the signing of Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid, according to the club’s official website.

The 25-year-old forward has penned a five-year contract at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez, with the transfer fee reported to be around €10 million.

Mayoral joined Real Madrid’s academy as a ten-year-old in 2007 and progressed through the youth ranks before his first loan move to VFL Wolfsburg in 2016.

Despite being at the Spanish outfit for over a decade, he never established a foothold in the first team following his senior debut in October 2015.

Mayoral embarked on four loan spells during his time with Madrid, including a two-year stint with Levante, where he netted 14 goals and provided four assists in 69 appearances.

The forward joined AS Roma on a temporary deal in 2020 and spent 18 months in the Italian capital but struggled for game-time under Jose Mourinho in Italy.

His last loan spell came in the second half of last season at Getafe, where he contributed six goals and one assist in 18 games, prompting Quique Sanchez Flores’ side to push for a permanent move.

Getafe fought off interest from Celta Vigo and several Serie A clubs for the striker’s signature, tying him down to a contract until the summer of 2027.

Following Luka Jovic’s loan move to Fiorentina, Carlo Ancelotti viewed Mayoral as a solid back-up for Karim Benzema.

Even with a year left on the Spaniard’s contract, Madrid would only sell if Mariano Diaz failed to secure a move away as Ancelotti did not want two back-up options.

Mayoral travelled with the Madrid squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, where they lost their first friendly to Barcelona.

However, with Mariano set to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Spanish champions could not pass on a decent offer from Getafe, which also allows Mayoral to play an important role for Quique’s side in the coming seasons.

The striker will complete his move across Madrid when the Los Blancos squad returns to Spain next month.
