Aitana Bonmati was the star of the show as Barcelona cruised to a 4-0 win over Real Madrid in Sunday’s Clásico.
Scorers: Bonmati 17′, Graham Hansen 43′, Caldentey 45+1′, Pina 90′, Vicky 90+2′
Alexia Putellas missed the match after a recurrence of a knee injury but recent Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati did start in midfield.
And it was the world’s best player who opened the scoring on 17 minutes as she produced a lovely sweeping finish to hand the Blaugrana the lead.
The Catalan giants really should have doubled their advantage soon after as Bonmati’s effort crashed back off the post before Caroline Graham Hansen’s follow-up shot crawled agonisingly wide when it looked easier to score.
Graham Hansen went close again just before half time as she twisted and turned her way past a couple of Los Blancos defenders before seeing her curled effort hit the crossbar.
The Danish striker finally did get her goal on 43 minutes as she lashed in from close range ater good work by Sara Paralluelo.
The hosts were running riot now and got their third in added time of the first half as Mariona Caldentey found herself at the back post and curled into the far corner.
Into the second half and once again it was all Barcelona, with the home side going close to a fourth as Paralluelo saw a one-on-one effort saved.
But that missed chance didn’t matter as in injury time Claudia Pina tapped in from six yards before Vicky netted to make it five with second remaining.
She became Barcelona’s youngest ever scorer in El Clásico at just 17, and completed their biggest ever win over Real Madrid,
