Bolton Wanderers and Millwall are readying bids in an attempt to hijack Wigan Athletic‘s deal for Burton Albion striker Victor Adeboyejo, according to Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has scored 13 times in 34 appearances for the Brewers since joining in the summer but could leave the League One club this month as there is reportedly a buyout clause in his contract.

According to Football Insider, Wigan are leading the race for Adeboyejo and have held extensive talks with Burton over a potential deal.

However, it is understood that Bolton and Millwall are now readying bids as they look to hijack the Latics’ move for the former Barnsley forward.

It has previously been suggested that the striker’s release clause is a low six-figure fee.

Millwall are on the lookout for more forward firepower after seeing both Benik Afobe and Isaac Olaofe leave this month and are said to have had a multi-million-pound offer for QPR frontman Lyndon Dykes rejected.

Bolton, meanwhile, sold Dapo Afolayan to St Pauli in the winter window and have lost Jon Dadi Bodvarsson to injury recently.

The Verdict

The race for Adeboyejo is hotting up with Bolton and Millwall keen to hijack Wigan’s move for the striker.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season in a struggling Burton side while his physical attributes should make him a good fit for the two new clubs joining the race.

Alan Nixon has indicated that the release clause is below £450,000 so it does seem like there is a cheap deal to be done here.

There are plenty of EFL clubs searching for strikers so you wouldn’t rule out more joining the race as the end of January approaches.
