Yesterday evening Inter Milan experienced an early and major setback in their Serie A season.

Whereas everything had gone right for the Nerazzurri in their win against Torino on opening day, there were few positives from the team’s performance yesterday.

From errors and sloppy play at the back to a lack of physicality in midfield, Inter looked hapless in the first half after they’d gone ahead in the first half.

Then in the second half, the Nerazzurri chased the game. There was no lack of intensity, but little in the way of precision from Inter’s attack.

Former Inter captain Beppe Bergomi stated after the match that “The problems that we’ve known about for the last 4-5 years have re-emerged.”

“They need players who can beat their opponent one-on-one,” he contended.

“Inter don’t have any like that. The only one that they had, Zalewski, was sold this summer.”

Bergomi added that “Udinese defended well, they were compact.”

“And just putting balls into the box against such a physical Udinese side is tough.”

Bergomi continued that “Under Inzaghi Inter reached incredible peaks in play with the combinations between the players.”

“But Udinese are a tough opponent for Inter due to their structure.”

“Inter signed five players under 23, but no starters,” Bergomi argued.

“Then all the other players are a year older. They were the last team to start preseason. It’s going to be a difficult season for them.”
