In the last remaining hours of the transfer window, Inter have identified Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji as a transfer target.

The 30-year-old is set to leave City this summer. The Premier League giants have been working to trim their squad this summer, particularly in defense.

AC Milan had already tried to sign Akanji. However, the Swiss international wants to play in the Champions League this season, and therefore has rejected their offer.

One possibility that has emerged is that Inter could sign Akanji to replace Benjamin Pavard, who is still a target for Marseille.

However, according to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Pavard leaving wouldn’t necessarily have to happen for Akanji to arrive.

Di Marzio reports that Inter and Manchester City have already agreed a deal.

The Sky transfer expert anticipates that the Nerazzurri will sign Akanji on an initial loan deal. This will come with a loan fee of €1 million.

Then, Di Marzio reports, there will be a purchase option in the deal. Furthermore, this would become an obligation in the event that Inter win the Serie A title.

This will make Akanji Inter’s fifth signing of the summer, after Petar Sucic, Luis Henrique, Ange-Yoan Bonny, and Andy Diouf.
