As reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Hoffenheim to appoint Michael Rechner (42) as their new goalkeeping coach, replacing Toni Tapalović, who was fired in March.

Rechner worked with Julian Nagelsmann during their time together at Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich are expected to pay a compensation fee in the mid-six-digit range, due to a contract with TSG that doesn’t expire until 2026.

The 42-year-old has worked in Sinsheim since 2008, working his way through the academy and U23s team, and has been involved with the first team since 2015. Rechner has worked with goalkeepers such as Koen Casteels (Wolfsburg), Gregor Kobel (Dortmund), Marvin Schwäbe (Köln) and Hoffenheim No. 1, Oliver Baumann.

Kerry Hau of Sport1 further reports that Nagelsmann wanted a new goalkeeping coach last season, but that Manuel Neuer would only extend his contract with Bayern until 2024 if Tapalović remained at the club, and so Nagelsmann’s wish wasn’t fulfilled.

Dismissed last month after more than 10 years at Bayern Munich, Tapalović had a close relationship with Neuer.
