Katie Barker admitted her 89th-minute winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers Women was 'one of the best feelings' she's had with the club.

Newcastle United Women were sweating on Sunday afternoon when they found themselves 2-0 down at half-time, but a second-half comeback saw them pick up all three points and extend their winning run to eight games in all competitions.

Goals from Kacie Elson and Jasmine McQuade saw United level things up in the second-half, but it was their number nine who stole the show with a last-gasp header to seal all three points.

United are 12 points clear at the top of the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division table and are closing in on back-to-back promotions having come through their third away game in a row victorious in memorable fashion.

'It was one of the best feelings I've ever had playing for this club,' Barker told nufc.co.uk after sealing a huge win on the road.

'It was such an important game and we had to go out and get something from it. Being 2-0 down we made it very difficult for ourselves but it's unbelievable to get the win.'

Becky Langley's side were second best during the opening 45 minutes against Wolves, as they struggled to find their normal momentum and intensity.

Wolves looked to be cruising towards three points - and potentially shaking up the title race - but that sense of jeopardy was perhaps what United needed to push them on, as Barker explained.

'There were probably plenty of people in the ground thinking we weren't going to get anything out of this game, never mind three points,' she said.

'I think the mentality we've shown shows the sort of team we are and where we want to be.'

When United levelled the scores up there was only going to be one team pushing for the third goal but despite knocking on the door, it appeared as though Langley's side may well be halted in their title push.

However, while time appeared to stand still when Elson crossed to the back post, Barker certainly didn't freeze, leaping highest and planting a bullet header into the far corner to trigger wild celebrations on and off the pitch.

'I was thinking (as Elson's cross came in) 'I just need to be in there',' Barker recalled of her 12th goal of the campaign.

'I timed it perfectly, it's hit me and gone in. It was a perfect cross from Kacie and a return of the favour as I set her up for the first goal.'
