Barcelona were hard-pressed to offload Clement Lenglet during the summer transfer window, but ultimately found a solution in the form of Aston Villa.
The Premier League club signed the French centre-half on loan for the 2023/24 season and accepted to take over a large share of his salary as well, providing momentary relief to the Catalans.
But things have not gone all too well for the 28-year-old in England as he has played just five times all season, with none of those appearances coming in the Premier League.
In all, the former Sevilla ace has turned up for 450 minutes, all of which have come in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The situation is far from ideal for both Lenglet and Barcelona as regular minutes for the player would mean more chances of finding suitors for the summer.
As such, there has been talk of Lenglet’s loan stint at Villa being cut short so that Barça can send him to a different club where he can play regularly.

Now according to BILD’s Christian Falk and Tobi Altschaffl (h/t iMiaSanMia), Barcelona loanee Lenglet could be an option for German champions Bayern Munich for the upcoming January transfer window.
The Bavarian giants are going through a bit of an injury crisis in defence, with Matthijs de Ligt sidelined at least until January while more recently Bouna Sarr also suffered an injury.
Manager Thomas Tuchel has been left with just two senior centre-backs in the form of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, opening the possibility of the club looking for January reinforcements.
And, as per the aforementioned source, Lenglet, whose market value is said to be €10 million, could be an option for Bayern Munich.
Given his situation at Villa and his relatively low market value, a move for the Barcelona loanee is seen as realistic at the Allianz Arena.
Aston Villa, though, are not looking to cut Lenglet’s loan spell short at this point. So, it remains to be seen if there is any development on this front next month.
