Barcelona’s management of the Vitor Roque saga has rightly raised questions over the gap between the administration and management.

Joan Laporta and Co. squeezed the Brazilian striker into the team’s dynamics amidst trying financial circumstances in January, only for the player to barely be used by Xavi.

Now, word has it that the club have decided to sacrifice the player in June, just over six months into his tenure as a Barcelona player.

Decision not made

While sources report that Barcelona have made a binding decision over Roque’s departure, Mundo Deportivo relay that no such decision has been made.

The Spanish outlet do not deny that a departure in June is possible but insist that the decision is yet to be taken. As it stands, the Catalans are waiting to see if there is enough room in the financial fair play front to register Roque’s contract for next season.

After all, the Brazilian was registered as a new Barcelona player in January utilising the space created by Gavi’s long-term injury. With the Spaniard entering the equation again for next season, there must be sufficient room to register Roque.

Loan vs transfer

Barcelona prefer to send Roque on loan so as to maintain leverage over his future and possibly call him back into the team’s dynamics.

The young phenom’s entourage, however, insist that there are only two options – staying in Barcelona or a permanent transfer to a club where he will enjoy minutes.

The player, for his part, wishes to stay in Catalonia despite his struggle for minutes, leaving Barcelona in a moral dilemma over his situation. A sale six months after spending a total of €30 million with another €31 million in variables, after all, does not paint a pretty picture.
