Barcelona star absent from training ahead of imminent exit

Barcelona are looking to finalise exits for multiple players before the summer transfer window closes on Monday. Oriol Romeu is poised to depart after reaching an agreement to terminate his contract, Fermin Lopez could join Chelsea if he pushes to leave, while Hector Fort is a certainty to leave.

Fort has no place in Hansi Flick’s squad for the 2025-26 season, given that he is behind at least two players in each full-back position. Because of this, the decision has been made for him to leave on loan, and at this stage, Mallorca are favourites to secure his signature.

For the second weekend in a row, Fort will be left out of Flick’s matchday squad. As per MD, he will not travel to the south of Madrid for Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Rayo Vallecano, and instead, he will play a friendly with Barca Atletic in order to preserve his match fitness levels.

Furthermore, it was also reported that Fort did not train with the Barcelona first team on Saturday – a further indication that he is set to leave.

Mallorca are almost ready to sign Fort

Mallorca have not yet been able to bring in Fort, as they must first finalise the exit of Pablo Maffeo. The Spanish-Argentine right-back is now close to joining Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, and once he does, it will allow Barcelona to be given the green light to release the young defender.

There had been suggestions earlier in the summer that Fort could depart Barcelona on a permanent basis, but the decision was made for the Catalan club to retain full control over his decision – a wise choice, considering the potential he has shown since making his first team debut under previous head coach Xavi Hernandez.

Mallorca are running out of time to sign Fort, but with less than 72 hours to go until Monday’s deadline, the general feeling is that the process is almost complete.
