The recent departure of Ilkay Gundogan, for instance, was an operation that caught the eye of many people. Believing it to have been an extremely poor display of business-dealing skills from the Catalan club’s experts on the matter, Barcelona was left without one of their most consistent players from last season and he left without any transfer fee attached.

Moreover, due to the information that came out stating that Gundogan had foregone the entirety of the salary for the remaining two years of his contract, it became even more clear that Barcelona was helped by the player in a financial regard despite Joan Laporta’s own reasoning behind the departure.

Yet, according to SPORT, it is also true that the player was paid in full and properly for as long as he was at the club. For the months of July and August this year, ones in which he was officially a Barcelona player and was at the service of the Blaugrana club, the player was paid in full by the club.

The integration from Barcelona was clear enough, it seems. For as long as Gundogan represents the Catalan club, he will be paid for it accordingly. However, the second he left for Premier League Manchester City, he becomes their responsibility to deal with and pay accordingly.

Yet, it must still be kept in mind that the player faced no issues in regards to his payments for as long as he was still a Barcelona player. It is only after his departure that the club will no longer have to compensate the German midfielder even as he lets go of the remaining salary on his original contract with the La Liga side.
