The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have crossed another name off their shortlist of targets to take up the club’s managerial reins this summer.
The tactician in question? Rúben Amorim.
Though not one of the more frequently-linked names, Sporting CP headmaster Amorim has been tipped as one potential replacement for the outbound Xavi on the Barca bench with a view to next season.
The 39-year-old is widely considered to be one of Europe’s next top coaches in the making, with his exploits in Lisbon over the course of the last couple of years having begun to catch the eye of some of the continent’s leading clubs.
Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, for one, are understood to be giving serious consideration to appointing Amorim as the successor to beloved boss Jürgen Klopp.
The Reds, though, will not face competition from Barcelona in their efforts towards as much.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda that the Blaugrana are ‘out of the race’ for Amorim.
After sporting director Deco expressed concern over the Sporting tactician’s experience, or rather lack thereof, it has since been reiterated that Barca are also not in a position to pay Amorim’s €15 million release clause.
