Barcelona have decided not to renew Andreas Christensen’s contract, which runs until 2026, and are actively preparing for the defender’s exit this summer, according to AS.
The 29-year-old has been informed that he is not part of the club’s long-term plans, and Barça are now open to selling him should a suitable offer arrive in the coming weeks.
This decision, while not entirely unexpected, is part of a broader strategy to trim the squad and ease financial pressure.
With Christensen’s departure, the club would not only earn a transfer fee that does not need to be amortised but also save on his relatively high salary of €9 million gross per season.
The move is seen as both practical and financially sound by those in charge.
The outlet mentions that there was some internal disagreement over Christensen’s future.
As such, Hansi Flick was in favour of keeping the Danish international, but Deco stood firm, especially given his strong backing of Ronald Araujo.

Barcelona currently have five central defenders for just two starting spots, making it necessary to offload at least one.
With Christensen having missed more than seven months due to tendinopathy, his availability and fitness remain concerns, further tipping the scales in favour of a sale.
Despite these injury setbacks, Christensen is not opposed to a move and would consider leaving if a financially and professionally attractive offer arrives.
In fact, Barcelona have already been alerted to interest from Saudi Arabia, with Al Nassr emerging as a potential destination that could offer a lucrative deal.
It must be noted that since his Barcelona switch from Chelsea, Christensen has made just 80 appearances and scored four goals.
While he has shown flashes of quality, his limited role and ongoing injury concerns have prevented him from becoming a key figure.
For Barcelona, securing a clean transfer at the right price would be considered a successful outcome.
