An altogether head-turning story surrounding the behaviour of a leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona late this past season has come to the fore online.
The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and highlights the actions of Marc-André ter Stegen.
Ter Stegen, it is understood, was afforded the responsibility of speaking to the club’s fans on the back of Barcelona’s final home fixture of the season against Villarreal.
As club captain, the German was expected to lead the way amid the celebrations of the Blaugrana’s latest league title.
Ter Stegen, however, angered by his lack of minutes over the term’s final weeks, refused to step up to provide as much.
This left manager Hansi Flick and club president Joan Laporta understandably unimpressed, culminating in a tense exchange between the pair on the sideline.
As per MD, Ter Stegen’s actions ‘provoked a strong outcry among the directors due to the lack of consideration shown to the nearly 50,000 fans who had been informed that their players would be dedicating a few words to them.’
This behaviour could well prove decisive in pushing Ter Stegen out of the Camp Nou this summer.
