Although the road ahead will be tricky, Barcelona are about to make a big step by securing a personal agreement with Nico.

Barcelona closing in on Nico agreement

According to Adrian Sanchez, Barcelona are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Nico Williams.

The journalist is referring to the personal agreement between the player and the club, which is a crucial first step in any move.

It was no secret that Nico himself had been keen on joining Barcelona this summer and was even willing to lower his salary demands.

Keeping that in mind, Adrian Sanchez adds that Nico Williams’ contract at Barcelona is expected to be long and will include a salary structure similar to that of Robert Lewandowski.

That means the forward’s salary will keep on increasing with each passing season, so as to reward the player for his loyalty and performance.

An agreement with Nico will be the first big step for Barcelona in their bid to sign the Spanish international this summer.

The player’s current team, Athletic Club, do not have much control over negotiations and are simply asking Barcelona to meet the player’s €62 million release clause.

While that is unlikely to be an issue for Barça, freeing up enough space on the salary bill could be a hurdle and might require them to make some important sales.
