Barcelona are ready to part ways with goalkeeper Inñaki Pena, but his departure is currently on hold due to registration delays involving Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny.
According to a report from SPORT, the club cannot finalise Pena’s exit until both replacements are officially registered, a process complicated by financial fair play and the pending classification of Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury as long-term.
Right now, Pena remains the only fit goalkeeper officially registered alongside the injured Ter Stegen, which technically makes him the only available option for the La Liga opener.
While Barça aim to solve this issue in early August, nothing can move forward until La Liga approves the registration of Garcia and Szczesny under the 1:1 salary rule, or through the 80% salary exemption if Ter Stegen’s absence is validated.
Pena has known since the end of last season that he is not part of Hansi Flick’s long-term plans.
However, his departure this summer is far from straightforward. With one year left on his contract and a salary too high for many suitors, any move will likely require Barcelona to reach a termination agreement, paying part of his wages to facilitate the transfer.

Negotiations had been progressing, but the delay in goalkeeper registrations has temporarily frozen talks. Still, the interest remains strong. Celta Vigo and Sevilla are both in the mix, each seeking a reliable, experienced goalkeeper.
Both clubs are only prepared to move forward if Pena arrives on a free transfer with a manageable wage.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray continue to monitor the situation from abroad, but Spanish offers are reportedly more advanced at this stage.
If everything goes according to plan, he could seal his exit in the first half of August.
However, Barça are in no rush, preferring to move carefully and secure the registration of Garcia and Szczesny before making any commitments.
There is optimism within the club that the situation will be resolved soon, especially if Ter Stegen is officially ruled out for four months, triggering the financial leeway needed.
Until then, Pena remains in limbo – prepared, patient, and professional as ever.
