Barcelona’s attempts to overhaul their sporting structure behind the scenes apparently included a a pursuit of Marc Overmars.
Ajax though, rejected the approach.
That’s according to a story in De Telegraaf which claims that the Blaugrana went to the Dutch side over the weekend to enquire after the former Arsenal and Netherlands winger.
They wanted Overmars to replace Pep Segura as sporting director, but were turned away by Ajax.
Overmars has become a key member of the Ajax backroom staff and after their Champions League heroics last season, the reigning Eredivisie champions are loathed to lose such a vital component of the club.
Segura meanwhile is hanging on by a thread after one of his most-trusted confidantes, Jordi Mestre, tendered his resignation last week.
