Roony Bardghji has been quite the revelation at Barcelona since he joined the club in a €2 million deal from Copenhagen this summer.

The youngster has impressed greatly in training, and his performances in friendlies have led many to believe he could become a first-team player for the club next season.

Barcelona, for their part, have long been following Bardghji’s progress. In fact, the youngster’s agent was in talks with the club over a move to Catalonia since 2024.

Bardghji’s move to Barça was almost thwarted

In a recent interview, Bardghji’s agent, Christian Emily, revealed that last year, he encountered a piece of news that could have almost thwarted his move to Barcelona.

“What most people don’t know is that I was at Barça’s training ground in May 2024, talking about Roony’s signing. In the middle of the meeting, my phone kept ringing until I finally picked it up,” he said (h/t SPORT).

Emily revealed that the phone call had left him stunned, making him believe that the move could be cancelled.

“When I picked up, it was Copenhagen, informing me of the player’s torn ligaments at that very moment. And just as we were talking to Barça in Barcelona,” he revealed.

Emily further revealed that the tension and silence that surrounded the room once the news broke out.

Emily knew the implications – a young, talented player has just suffered a serious injury, one that could potentially slow his progress and halt his move to Barcelona.

Fortunately for Bardghji and his agent, Barcelona never stopped being interested and tracked the player’s progress closely.

“Barça didn’t lose interest in the youngster. We held numerous meetings since then until, finally, an agreement was reached, and he ended up wearing the Blaugrana shirt,” he concluded.

The rest, of course, is history with Bardghji joining Barcelona in a permanent deal – an investment that could prove to be a bargain for the Catalans in the years to come.
