The World Cup, as it does every year, showcased a wide array of talented footballers, many of whom had a breakthrough campaign.

Goncalo Ramos scored a hattrick against Switzerland in the knockouts, while Enzo Fernandez picked up the Best Young Player Award.

Another player who enjoyed an impressive campaign, bringing him to public spotlight, was Ajax’s 22-year-old Mohammed Kudus. He played three games for Ghana, scoring two goals. He was also a standout performer in their 3-2 defeat against Portugal.

According to SPORT, Barcelona have been following Kudus for a while, with their sporting director, Jordi Cruyff, subtly hinting it as well.

“I saw him play a year ago, and I have continued to observe his career at Ajax,” he said.

However, a move for Kudus is next to impossible for Barcelona right now, as Ajax have priced him at around €45 million. The Dutch outfit are known to be tough negotiators, and will likely not budge from their quote soon.

Barcelona and Ajax do share an excellent relationship, given their roots in Cruyff-ian style football. They have also dealt with several players, most recently Sergino Dest and Frenkie de Jong.

Kudus is a versatile forward, who can play as a striker, on the wing, and even across midfield, as a no. 10 and even no. 8. He has scored seven goals so far this season, but has not registered any assists.
