Barcelona face competition from West Ham for Leeds United winger

Barcelona are in the market for a new right-sided winger heading into the summer transfer window, if various reports in the media are to be believed.

Given that Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation still remains unresolved and Adama Traore is unlikely to be signed permanently, it would make sense for the Blaugrana to prioritise the signing of another wide attacker come summer.

And, Leeds United superstar Raphinha is believed to be at the top of the wishlist for Barça. The Brazilian international has been a big hit at Elland Road since joining from Rennes in 2020 but could be on the move at the end of the season.

Reports have claimed that the 25-year-old is keen on moving to Barcelona in the summer, with personal terms unlikely to be an issue. However, the Blaugrana are yet to begin negotiations with Leeds over a move, which leaves the window open for other clubs to make an attempt.

And, as per Sky Sports (h/t Fichajes), West Ham United are planning to do just that as they wish to snare Raphinha away from under the noses of Barcelona in the summer.

The Hammers made an attempt to sign the Brazilian from Leeds during the January window but failed to succeed. However, they have now seemingly rekindled their interest in the 25-year-old and wish to sign him.

Leeds, for their part, are asking for €50 million for their prized asset, which Barcelona are unwilling to pay as they have other priority areas in the squad that need to be strengthened.

However, West Ham may have the financial means to meet the valuation, while they would also guarantee a starting spot for Raphinha, something Barça cannot if Dembele stays.

It could make things tricky for the Blaugrana in their pursuit of the former Rennes winger, although the player’s desire to move to Camp Nou does give them the edge in the race.
