There was no shortage of drama in the final breaths of the Serie A season.
It always threatened to be a fiery evening, with 17th placed Udinese and 16th placed Frosinone locking horns while 18th placed Empoli hosted Roma.
And it was a 90 minutes which saw all three sides spending time in the relegation zone, as an early goal for Empoli looked set to relegate Udinese before Roma levelled.
Then it was Udinese’s turn to take the lead, as Kienan Davis fired them ahead against Frosinone in a game which had been even to that point.
With Frosinone in the safest position heading into the evening and only able to be relegated if they lost and Empoli won.
It seemed as though they would hold onto their Serie A status as the clocks in both games ticked past 90 minutes.
But Empoli had other ideas, and M’Baye Niang fired home what turned out to be a winning goal deep into stoppage time, leaving Frosinone staring down the reality of second-tier football next season, and their rivals breathing a massive sigh of relief.
Has there been a more frantic finish in the Italian top flight recently?
