FC Barcelona’s main priority during the previous summer transfer window was restructuring their roster, with a focus on completing player sales and loan departures to balance the books.

Sergino Dest was one of the players who moved out on loan after the club deemed he had failed to establish a regular starting position at Barcelona.

After joining PSV Eindhoven on loan last year, Dest has performed admirably. In 37 appearances across all competitions, he has scored two goals and racked up seven assists, helping his team secure the Eredivisie title.

However, a recent knee injury during a training session has ruled him out for an extended period of nine months and shrouded his future in uncertainty.

Injury has complicated matters

Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano PSV Eindhoven expressed a strong interest in exercising their €10 million buy option for Sergino Dest, having been pleased with his performances.

Even so, the recent injury could potentially impact negotiations. This development raises concerns about his fitness for the long term, which could prompt PSV to reconsider.

And although the Dutch club sees Dest as a valuable addition to their squad, his recent injury could lead them to revisit the terms of their agreement.

Now, it cannot be ruled out that parties end up negotiating a lower fee for the player in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Xavi will not count on Dest next season

Even if PSV decides not to sign Dest permanently, the likelihood of him remaining in Barcelona is very low, which goes for Clement Lenglet as well, who is on loan at Aston Villa.

Reports have previously argued that Clement Lenglet and Sergino Dest are two loanees that Xavi is positive he does not intend to count.
