Barcelona are on the lookout for a new pivot midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. Even though Guido Rodriguez’s signing appears tied down, the Catalans intend to bring another top No. 6.

Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich are seen as the priority targets, but Barça are looking at other options for the role.

Barcelona to miss out on Ederson

However, according to SPORT, Barcelona are expected to miss out on Ederson this summer due to two reasons.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has been enjoying a fine season with Atalanta, playing an important role in their progression to the finals of the UEFA Europa League where they will face Bayer Leverkusen.

As such, the midfielder is attracting serious interest from clubs in the Premier League, who are ready to bid for him. It is seen as one of the reasons that Barcelona could end up missing out on the Brazilian as they are not in a position to compete financially.

Furthermore, even though Ederson’s current market value stands at around €30 million, Atalanta are demanding a sum of €50 million for his services in the summer.

That also puts the Brazilian out of the reach of the Blaugrana, who are not in a position to splash that kind of money at this point, whereas the Premier League sides would be open to meeting that valuation.

For now, though, the signing of Guido Rodriguez is as good as done and Deco & co. will continue to work on bringing another top pivot, although the financial situation must need to clear up first.
