The upcoming summer window is set to be quite the rollercoaster for FC Barcelona. La Blaugrana are aware of their limitations, but they also are now aware of possible solutions. One of those solutions could be that Barcelona may have to make important sales in the summer transfer window.

Such a sale could arrive in the form of the departure of one of Barça’s big stars. A defender, hailing from Uruguay, has been reported as being one of those potential sacrifices. However, in the coming month or so, Barcelona expect a final answer from said player, hoping to reach a final conclusion so that they can proceed in that direction.

The player in question is none other than Ronald Araujo, and according to SPORT, Barcelona are now waiting for the player’s final response to their renewal offer. Both the club and Araujo want to continue on the same path, but there are definitely some differences that could lead to an entirely different outcome.

As it stands, Barcelona hope to extend Araujo’s contract from 2026 to 2028. Moreover, they have proposed a salary increase as well to acknowledge Araujo’s level in recent seasons. However, that increase would still not be sufficient enough to match the levels of the highest earners within the team.

Given their rather vulnerable financial situation, Barcelona simply can not afford to offer such luxuries at the moment. On the other hand, interested clubs continue to pester Araujo with promises of salaries worth double or more than what Barcelona is reportedly offering him.

Previously, the Barcelona defender has shrugged off all such advances. He has maintained his loyalty to the Catalan club and has always insisted upon Barcelona being his first priority. Even now, despite the fact that Barça remains his primary commitment, Araujo is closer to leaving than he has probably ever been before while at Barcelona.

Both Bayern Munich and Manchester United await the conclusion of his contractual situation. In the event that Araujo decides not to renew with the club, Barcelona may finally have to part ways with him in the summer.

With Bayern reportedly already willing to offer close to €90 million for him in January, and Manchester United also willing to go above and beyond, the transfer fee would understandably be a massive amount.

However, Araujo still remains indispensable from a sporting perspective. While his departure would allow for signings in other positions that Xavi desperately wants new stars in, Araujo’s status as an untouchable sporting guarantee makes it difficult. In that scenario, names like those of Raphinha and Frenkie De Jong could end up being the sacrifices Barcelona makes.
