Barcelona could use İlkay Gündoğan’s exit to land a Man City star | OneFootball

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona could make use of Manchester City’s interest in İlkay Gündoğan to push for an exchange deal for a member of Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues squad.

That’s according to Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito TV, who highlights João Cancelo as the player in question.

It is of course common knowledge that the brass at Barcelona, amid their widely publicised financial woes, have long been searching for a way to bring defender Cancelo back to the club for the season ahead.

The Portuguese enjoyed a productive loan stint in Catalunya’s capital last time out, with new Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick in favour of his return.

To date, Deco and co. have been unable to meet the demands of their counterparts at the aforementioned Man City.

Early this week, however, a route towards as much may well have been opened.

With İlkay Gündoğan inching ever closer to a Barcelona exit, and Premier League champions City considered the frontrunners for his signature, the Camp Nou board could attempt to make use of negotiations to propose an exchange of sorts.

The move in question would see Cancelo make his way back to Spain, with Gündoğan, as well as a cash sum, heading in the opposite direction to Manchester.
