Neymar Jr is one of football’s most vibrant talents around at the moment. Having built his legacy at Barcelona, the 31-year-old’s future at PSG is up in the air.

The Brazilian was a part of Luis Enrique’s historic treble-winning side and formed a legendary trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. However, despite resistance from Barcelona, PSG ended up paying his whopping €222 million release clause.

Since the departure of Neymar Jr from Barcelona in the summer of 2017, rumours tying him back to the club have continued to persist.

Following the failed attempt to achieve Messi’s homecoming, the Argentine’s compatriot is now discussed as a potential alternative.

According to Toni Juanmarti (as per Reshad Rehman), as far as Neymar is now concerned — ‘some people in the board’ aren’t strongly ruling out this option, but for the coaching staff and the sporting directors, he is not an option.

At the age of 31, Neymar has lost a fair bit of explosiveness as he appears to have molded himself into more of a midfielder. The tricky winger that dazzled at Barcelona is unlikely to show that skillset again.

Moreover, Neymar’s biggest trial remain injury woes. Despite putting up impressive numbers in the league last season as he racked up 13 goals and 11 assists, the Brazilian missed out half the season and the most crucial tie against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Cramming a luxury player like Neymar into an already strained wage bill will be an arduous task for Barcelona and arguably not worth the trouble.

Considering the Catalan giants must first execute an array of exit operations, guaranteeing Neymar’s return is currently a far fetch.

Nonetheless, if finances improve and PSG do not present many obstacles in a transfer, providing a supposed loan deal, Neymar may prove to be an adequate inclusion. As of now, though, he garners little consensus from the coaching staff.
