Barcelona capitalised on Real Madrid’s early loss by defeating Sevilla 3-0, extending their lead atop La Liga to eight points.
Here is all that happened at Camp Nou.
Scorers: Alba 58′, Gavi 70′, Raphina 79′
Barça stuck to their guns and dominated the possession from the off.
However, they struggled to break down Sevilla’s resolute back-line. As a result, Robert Lewandowski found it tough to get into the game throughout the first half.
Heading into the break with 70% possession but only two shots on target will have left a sour taste in the mouthes of the Barça faithful.
The half-time team talk appeared to work from Xavi, as Barça came out with much more attacking thrust.
They were rewarded for their efforts just before the hour mark when Franck Kessié picked out Jordi Alba in the box to cap off a superb team move, and the full-back stabbed home to snatch the lead.
A superb Raphinha found Gavi alone in the box for the midfielder to tap home, doubling Barça’s lead with twenty minutes remaining.
Raphinha got his own name on the scoresheet a few minutes later when Jordi Alba played in an inch-perfect ball for the Brazilian to slot home, driving the final nail into Sevilla’s coffin.
With the superb result, Xavi’s side take a stranglehold on the La Liga title race, now eight points clear at the top.
