We looked at two Sheffield Wednesday players that could be sent out on loan before the closure of the transfer window.
It has been a busy summer for Sheffield Wednesday after they secured survival in the Championship.
The Owls looked destined to make an immediate return to League One after a disastrous start to the season under Xisco Munoz, but they achieved following after a remarkable turnaround under Danny Rohl as they finished 20th in the table.
Wednesday received a huge boost as Rohl signed a new long-term contract at the club in May, and the German has wasted no time in getting to work on rebuilding his squad, with nine new players arriving at Hillsborough so far this summer.
In addition to those new arrivals, Liam Palmer, Dominic Iorfa, Di'Shon Bernard, Barry Bannan and Josh Windass have all signed new deals, but Cameron Dawson and Will Vaulks have departed after turning down the offer of an extension, while Ciaran Brennan, Reece James, George Byers, Tyreeq Bakinson, Juan Delgado and Lee Gregory have been released.
With just under a month to go until the end of the transfer window, there are likely to be plenty more incomings and outgoings for the Owls, and we looked at two players Rohl could decide to send out on loan.
Goalkeeper Pierce Charles made his first team breakthrough last season, and he is one of Wednesday's brightest young prospects.
Charles made his debut for the Owls in the 1-1 draw against Coventry City in the FA Cup in January before starting again in the replay the following month, and he did not look out of place on either occasion.
The 18-year-old is a player with huge potential, and Rohl described him as a "fantastic goalkeeper" in April, stating that "he has a lot of good things that I like".
Charles signed a new contract at Hillsborough in May, which means the Owls will not be vulnerable to losing him to bigger clubs this summer, and it seems inevitable he will become their number one goalkeeper at some point.
The Northern Ireland youth international has impressed during pre-season, but with competition for places from Beadle and Hamer, it seems unlikely he will receive much game time this campaign.
With that in mind, Charles could be sent out on loan, and League One side Crawley Town are said to have enquired about signing him on a temporary basis, but Wednesday may have reservations about allowing him to join the Red Devils as they have lost a number of key players since promotion, with many expecting them to be in a relegation battle.
The Owls may be reluctant to sanction Charles' departure until later in the window with Hamer currently out injured, but a loan move to play regular senior football would undoubtedly be beneficial for his development.
Striker Bailey Cadamarteri made his senior league debut for Wednesday in November, and he played an important role in his side's survival last season, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 25 appearances in all competitions.
Cadamarteri made a big impact after his introduction to the team as he netted three goals in four games at the start of December, but his minutes became limited after the arrival of Ike Ugbo on loan from Troyes in January, and he started just four times in the final three months of the campaign.
The signings of Lowe and McNeill have pushed Cadamarteri down the pecking order, and with further additions in the forward areas expected before the end of the window, Rohl refused to rule out a loan move for the 19-year-old.
"Bailey helped us a lot this season in a very difficult moment," Rohl told The Star.
"He showed his quality and strength and then in the second half it was a little up and down with some injuries and not so many minutes. This is normal, he came from the academy, he took big steps forward. Now it is about making him ready for the next season.
"He had a good opportunity against Salzburg where he showed his quality. But he should still improve, this is important now. Now we will see what is the best for Bailey at the moment there is no question mark, we want to improve him, help him, bring him onto the next level. That was the reason we extended his contract last season."
It seems Cadamarteri has no shortage of interest, with Wrexham, Huddersfield Town, Stockport County, Blackpool, Motherwell and Dundee United all said to be interested in signing him on loan, but whether he is allowed to depart may depend on whether the Owls are able to bring in a striker.
Cadamarteri would be a useful player for Wednesday to have in the squad this season, but as he is unlikely to be a regular starter, a loan move would be the more sensible option, and a season playing in League One or the Scottish Premiership would be ideal for him.
