The days of Dejphon Chansiri being in charge at Hillsborough could be almost over.

Sheffield Wednesday may finally be close to having new owners as a takeover edges closer and closer.

Following reports from The Star that a number of parties from the UK, USA and Monaco were interested in buying the Championship club, it has now been claimed, by Alan Biggs, that an agreement with one party is "very close."

While the name of the exact person/group was not mentioned, Biggs did state that he'd heard Tilman Fertitta, an American businessman with a net worth of $11.3 billion (£8.3 billion) was one of the names mentioned as a possible buyer.

This all follows months of chaos at Hillsborough where players haven't been paid for the past two months, other coaches and staff didn't receive their May wages on time, and the manager, Danny Rohl, tried his best to leave the club. He is now looking likely to return, although that won't be popular with some members of the changing room, according to The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday's exciting takeover news

There has been such chaos under the current owner, Dejphon Chansiri, in recent years that Wednesday supporters will be happy to see almost anyone else in charge. Lee Hendrie believes that a takeover could unlock the club's true potential, although whichever new boss does come in, if any of the proposed takeovers are successful, will be under heavy spending restrictions.

The non-payment of players and other bills currently has the Owls under three separate transfer embargoes, and they have been banned from spending any fees on transfers or loans until 2027.

"Sheffield Wednesday are looking to get taken over and, obviously, with the people that are involved and are keen to take over the football club, I think the fans will be over the moon," the Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Football League World.

"I think they'll be over the moon that obviously Danny Rohl stays at the football club and, as I said, I think that there was obviously something more that surrounded him that's obviously made him think, or he had a bit of good news that maybe the club is getting taken over and he can really strive and take the club forward.

"You must say that Sheffield Wednesday fans will be over the moon if this actually does happen. I've said it too long now. They've been stood still, [they're] a club that can certainly go forward and obviously keeping hold of Danny Rohl is massive for them. I think it's two really, really positive things for Sheffield Wednesday."

The amount of interest from some extremely wealthy people in Wednesday should have their supporters incredibly hopeful of what could be to come.

Money doesn't solve all problems. Clubs have to be run properly in order for these finances to be used effectively. What the option of large cash reserves would give the Owls, by the time they are allowed to spend again in a year-and-a-half, is the potential to attract the talent, both on the pitch and in the dugout, that could help them rise up the English footballing pyramid once again.
