The Eagles duo have made the 100-man shortlist for the award, which is given to the most talented youngster based in Europe. The winner will be announced in December.

The search for the winner of the 23rd Golden Boy award is under way. On 28 May, the new Football Benchmark Index was unveiled in Solomeo, Italy, revealing the 100 best under-21 players in Europe this calendar year. The index is based on players’ performances between October 2024 and May 2025. All players must currently be under contract at a European club and must have been born in or after 2005.

Eintracht Frankfurt youngsters Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and Can Uzun have both made the list. The youngest player to win the award, which was conceived by journalist Massimo Franchi and established by Italian newspaper Tuttosport in 2003, is Lamine Yamal. The Barcelona wonderkid is currently in first place but as he already won the award in 2024, the 17-year-old is ineligible for the award.

The winner of the inaugural Golden Boy award in 2003 was Rafael van der Vaart, while current Eagles star Mario Götze came out on top in 2011. Eintracht’s Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson made the shortlist in 2024, finishing 43rd in the index.
