Spanish international Aymeric Laporte looks as if he will be returning to Europe this summer to play in the Euros under Luis de la Fuente, but it’s a switch he wants to make permanent. The 29-year-old moved to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia last summer from Manchester City, but has voiced concern over the standards in the Middle East.

Laporte is the object of interest from Athletic Club. President Jon Uriarte said last September that they were close to bringing him back to Bilbao last summer, and they will try to do so again if Laporte can negotiate a contract termination with Al-Nassr. However Matteo Moretto has told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that they are not the only side that are weighing up a move for him, with other teams in Spain and Italy enquiring about his availability.

An experienced and solid option at the back, Laporte would improve the majority of defences in the world, and it would be no surprise if he was receiving significant interest were he to become a free agent. If Athletic were to pair him with Dani Vivian, they may end up with Spain’s starting duo in the coming years.
