According to The Sun, Aston Villa are in the market for Curtis Jones. It appears Dean Smith is keen on further strengthening his midfield unit, with the Liverpool prospect emerging as an ideal option. The Villans are even weighing up a £15 million bid for Jones as they believe that the youngster faces an uncertain future at Anfield.

Curtis Jones’ Current Status At Liverpool

Curtis Jones broke into the Liverpool first-team during the backend of the 2019/20 campaign, but his real breakthrough came last season. Indeed, the youngster made 24 Premier League appearances, playing a vital role in a campaign that saw the club struggle with an injury crisis.

The 20-year-old made a solid impression as well, turning a few heads with his composure on the ball and ability to drive forward into the opposition half. His box to box style of play was ideally suited to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

Jones still needs to improve his game further in order to become a more prominent figure in the Liverpool first-team. He is, nevertheless, a key figure in the squad and one would expect him to eventually surpass Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the pecking order.

However, there are now concerns over the midfielder’s future at Anfield, as he is yet to make an appearance in the new season. While he missed the opening game due to concussion protocol, Jones was an unused sub against Burnley and couldn’t even make the squad against Chelsea.

Should Liverpool Cash In On Jones?

Liverpool have already parted ways with many of their prospects this summer, including Taiwo Awoniyi and Harry Wilson while Marko Grujic, Ben Davies and Ben Woodburn were all sent out on loan.

Cashing on Curtis Jones, in that regard, might not be a prudent move by Jurgen Klopp, especially at this stage of the transfer window. The Reds have no shortage of quality options in Thiago, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita. But very few are as well equipped to replace the outgoing Gini Wijnaldum as Jones.

The young Englishman may have had a difficult past few months at Anfield, but his box to box quality, combined with his aggression and work ethic, make him an ideal long-term prospect, one that the club simply cannot afford to lose.

A fee of just £15 million is also extremely low for a player of his calibre. And given the fact that Liverpool are unlikely to make any more moves in the market, Klopp must do everything he can to keep hold of the young midfielder this summer.
