The Villans provided the injury update yesterday via a post on their official club website.
Littlejohn sustained the injury during the second half of Sunday’s 2-1 Barclays Women’s Super League victory over West Ham United at The Chigwell Construction Stadium. The 32-year-old was an 82nd-minute substitute for The Villans but she left the field five minutes later after being injured in a heavy challenge. Littlejohn was booked for putting in the challenge.
It has been reported that Littlejohn sustained a deep laceration to her knee and she will now spend a period on the sidelines. Aston Villa have not provided an estimated recovery time for the player but lacerations generally take up to three months to heal depending on the severity of the injury.
Littlejohn is in her second season with Aston Villa after joining the club in September 2021. The player made 17 appearances for The Villans in the Barclays Women’s Super League last term but she has been restricted to just four substitute outings so far this season. Littlejohn missed the first half of the season with a foot injury.
The midfielder will be hoping to make a quick recovery to boost her chances of making the Republic of Ireland squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
