In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Aston Villa could reignite their interest in Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. It has been claimed that the Villans could move in for the Spanish talent during the summer transfer window.

Williams’ Impressive Numbers At The San Mames Stadium This Season

Williams is having an impressive campaign in Spanish football after putting in a run of eye-catching performances for Bilbao in the final third. The Pamplona-born talent has found the back of the net six times and picked up five assists in 24 appearances for the Spanish club this season in various competitions.

The Spanish sensation has been a reliable performer for Bilbao on the attacking third of the field as he is averaging 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 78.6% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract with the Spanish outfit is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Therefore, it is only logical for the Villans to engineer a cut-price move for him at the end of this season.

Villa Park

Is Williams A Decent Option For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?

Williams excels at generating space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can orchestrate some meaningful openings for his teammates and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. Williams mainly functions as a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a left-winger if his manager asks him to do so.

The Spaniard can also strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He deserves some credit for scoring and creating his fair share of goals for Bilbao on the attacking end of the pitch this season.

Thus, we can expect Williams to inject some much-needed firepower into Aston Villa boss Unai Emery‘s attack. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at Villa Park and could help the West Midlands club challenge for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season.

At 20, the future is quite bright for Williams, so Emery should focus on trying everything he can to lure him to England during the summer transfer period. He has the potential to become a generational talent which makes him a good option for the Villans to pursue later this year.
