Manchester United were brutally exposed by Crystal Palace in a humbling 4-0 defeat at Selhurst Park this evening.

In a season which has produced its fair share of lows, tonight’s showing will take some beating.

Second best in every department, only one team showed any fight and willingness to win and that wasn’t Erik ten Hag’s men.

The travelling away fans showed their class by applauding the beleaguered United players off the pitch when they deserved no such sympathy.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former United captain Ashley Young was full of praise for the travelling Reds after watching scenes of numerous away fans loudly applauding their vanquished team.

He claimed, “they are still singing in their numbers, the fans are fantastic all the time. That display tonight, you would have thought most would have left. They want to see much more than that.”

The Everton full back was then asked whether or not the Red Devils were in danger of not qualifying for Europe. He claimed, “yeah, if they play like tonight, they will miss out. They’re not easy games coming up. If they’re not willing to run about, then they’re going to be in trouble.”

Young was then asked whether he was surprised by United’s performance to which he responded, “no, not really. It’s been an up and down season. There are too many players who are not at the right level for this game. It’s men against boys.”

The England international was then asked if this was as bad as it gets for a Manchester United player and he responded, “yeah, I think so.”

“After the first goal you think, there will be a bit of impetus to get back in the game. There was none of that at all. Palace just grew and grew into the game. There was just nothing from United.”

The Red Devils must now somehow pick themselves up for the immense challenge of welcoming Premier League leaders Arsenal to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

What is clear is that to even have a chance of a point, the players and manager will need to raise their level significantly from tonight’s shambolic, shameful effort.
