The two sides are currently battling it out at the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table and they will be hoping to transfer their early season league form into the final stages of last season’s rearranged Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Ahead of matchday, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the statistics surrounding the tie and here are four facts which relate to Arsenal’s midweek date with Spurs.
Spurs are yet to defeat the red side of North London
Tottenham Hotspur go into Wednesday’s tie without a victory over Arsenal in six competitive meetings. Rehanne Skinner’s side were also defeated 4-0 by The Gunners in ‘The Mind Series’ at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in August. A victory for The Lilywhites is well overdue.
The pair have met before in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup
Wednesday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup tie will see Arsenal and Spurs meet in the competition for the third time. Arsenal have won and kept clean sheets in both of the previous two meetings. The Gunners won 10-0 in the last-16 of the competition in 2017 before knocking their North London rivals out again in their delayed 2019/2020 quarter-final tie with a 4-0 victory at Meadow Park.
Hat-tricks are a common theme in North London derby Vitality Women’s FA Cup ties
Both of Arsenal’s previous Vitality Women’s FA Cup victories over Spurs have produced hat-tricks. In 2017, former Gunner Danielle van de Donk netted three of her side’s 10 goals while Lisa Evans hit a rapid treble in 2019/2020 as the Spurs defence crumbled towards the end of the game. With the likes of Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead in good goalscoring form this season amongst others, you wouldn’t rule out another hat-trick in the latest meeting.
Spurs can take heart from Conti Cup draw
Spurs’ only positive result against Arsenal came in last season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup. In their final group game, the pair battled to a 2-2 draw after normal time before Arsenal went on to claim the bonus point by winning the resulting penalty shootout 5-4. Vivianne Miedema and Caitlin Foord were on target for the hosts while Spurs’ goals came from Ria Percival and Shelina Zadorsky.
Wednesday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to kick-off at 7.15pm and will be broadcast live on BBC Four.
