Robert Vilahamn praised the impact of Mikey Harris at Brighton & Hove Albion, but reiterated the focus is on a positive performance from us heading into the Barclays Women’s Super League clash on Sunday (2pm UK).

Harris was appointed in an interim role for the remainder of the campaign following the departure of Melissa Phillips in February and, after taking the helm in seven matches so far, he has guided the Seagulls to surpass their points tally from last season, having played three less games.

They have enjoyed a good run of form on the road, unbeaten in their last three away trips and have scored 13 goals in four away games, but Robert insisted that his side are concentrated on putting on another strong performance.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, the boss said: “He has come in and played some really good football that I like to see, they play with a lot of confidence… if they have a good day then it will be a tough game, so we will need to make sure we are sharp.

“We know that [Elisabeth] Terland is their main goalscorer and she has scored a lot of goals, but the main thing when you are looking at an opponent is how do they play, do they press high, where are their strengths and so on, it’s not so much about who is playing as Brighton have a big squad and use quite a lot of players. We just want to focus on how we want to play and how we can hurt their way of playing.”

Our previous outing in the WSL saw us fall behind for a second consecutive weekend before fighting back to pick a valuable point at Manchester United and, despite conceding early in recent games, Robert praised the character of his players to find a way back.

“We have actually come back in a few games this season, so I’m not really concerned if they score an early goal because we want to keep going and play our football, it shows that we have character.

“Of course, we want to dictate the game more, we want to have a better start and don’t want to concede early goals in game, but sometimes that happens, then you just need to deal with that and I’m fine with that as I know the players can handle it.”

When asked about whether the side can look forward to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final next month (12 May), the boss highlights that the attention needs to remain on the next game.

“Everything we do at` the training ground and in my leadership is about being present and that’s always focusing on here and now. Also, we can enjoy something to look forward too, but everything we do is here and now, and the game on Sunday will be the most important thing.”
