Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi has this week sparked widespread chatter across the Spanish media and beyond.
This comes owing to a round of comments regarding his future, which suggest that the midfielder’s next landing spot is not as much of a sure thing as previously thought.
Zubimendi has of course long taken his place front and centre in the headlines in Spain and England alike.
This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 26-year-old had given his word to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, over the terms of a summer move to north London.
It therefore came as a major surprise when, upon being drawn on his immediate future this week, Zubimendi threw the situation back up in the air.
During a press conference whilst on international duty with Spain, the talented engine room star was asked about the possibility of receiving a call from new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso, over a potential move to the Santiago
“I’ve always said he is my idol and that for me it’s a stroke of luck that he was able to coach the reserve team in a very important year. What if he calls me now? I don’t like to talk about those hypotheticals. I prefer to talk about the present, because I also think it would be disrespectful to answer from the training camp.”
Casting further doubt over his alleged Arsenal switch, Zubimendi continued:
“There are options, but it seems like it’s going to be a long summer, and I don’t know how it will end.”
