Arsenal’s academy prospect Freya Godfrey has joined FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Ipswich Town on a dual-registration deal.

The Tractor Girls announced the transfer via an update on their official club website earlier today. It is thought that the player could be used by parent club Arsenal in WSL Academy League matches during her time with the Suffolk side.

The 17-year-old midfielder is yet to make her senior debut for The Gunners but she has had involvement with the team in pre-season, particularly ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign when Arsenal were without a number of players due to international duty at the Olympic Games. Godfrey played for The Gunners in a pre-season match against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium in August 2021, that outing being her most high-profile to date.

Godfrey spent last season playing for Arsenal’s WSL Academy League side. The player made 18 appearances for The Gunners, scoring 13 goals. While midfield is Godfrey’s primary position, she is very attack-minded and can operate in various positions in the final third of the pitch.

On the international stage, Godfrey represents England Under-19s and she will be looking to progress into the final youth age groups in the coming years.

Godfrey could go straight into the Ipswich Town squad for their FA Women’s National League Cup fixture at Queens Park Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
