It has sparked outrage among the Rams' travelling faithful

Ipswich Town's pricing for Derby County supporters visiting Portman Road has sparked outrage among the Rams' travelling faithful, as the allocation has also been reduced.

The Tractor Boy's pricing surely places them firmly among the Championship's worst offenders for away ticket costs - with some second-tier clubs charging fans up to 60% more than the £30 price cap introduced by the Premier League in 2016.

The issue has become so pronounced that supporter groups across the division have called for the EFL to implement a league-wide cap similar to the top-flight's limit.

How much Derby County fans are being charged for an Ipswich away ticket

What makes these prices particularly cheeky is the context of Ipswich's 24/25 top-flight season. The club charged away fans a maximum of £30 under the Premier League's away ticket price cap.

Now relegated to the Championship, they're charging more for away fans to watch an obviously lower standard of football.

If you want to visit Portman Road, adults aged 23-64 will pay £38 for Upper Tier tickets, while Lower Tier and Wheelchair accessible seats cost £34.

The pricing extends across all age categories, with Seniors (65+) charged £29 in the Upper Tier and £25 in the Lower Tier.

Under 23s (19-22) face fees of £22 and £21 respectively, while Under 19s pay £11 regardless of location.

The Championship has become "quite possibly the most expensive league in the world for away fans" following the introduction of the £30 cap.

Reduced allocation makes matters worse

Adding insult to injury, Derby fans have been allocated just 2,001 tickets for the fixture, a big reduction from the standard 3,000 allocation that was typical during Ipswich's top-flight season.

For Rams fans, though, they face additional costs - including £1 booking fees per ticket for online and telephone purchases and £3 postage fees. Supporters won't be charged a booking fee if they go in-person to the ticket office.

Obviously, all this is also without considering the cost of travel - which can easily push a day out to over £100 per person before considering food and drink.

How Derby County fans have reacted to Ipswich Town's ticket prices

The reaction from Derby fans has been very critical - as you can imagine. The pricing structure has been described as "daylight robbery" by one, with many other replies containing colourful language.

The Football Supporters' Association has consistently campaigned against such pricing through their 'Twenty's Plenty' initiative, which was the reason behind the Premier League adopting the £30 cap.

However, the Championship has resisted similar pressure, leaving clubs free to clearly set their own prices.

For a club that benefited from loyal away support during their back-to-back promotion campaigns and brief Premier League spell, the Tractor Boy's fans shouldn't be surprised if they're charged the same amount for the reverse fixture in February.
