The sides traded chances in the opening exchanges, though the Gunners dominated possession.

Last season’s runners-up struck pay-dirt before the 20 minute mark through midfielder Fabio Vieira, who was picked out by Reiss Nelson with a pinpoint pass.

Mikel Arteta’s side held onto that lead until the closing stages of the game but the Cherries put on the pressure and eventually reclaimed parity thanks to a heavily-deflected equaliser from second-half sub Antoine Semenyo.

The match went to a penalty shoot-out, which Mikel Arteta’s side won 5-4, with Jakub Kiwior netting the clinching spot-kick.
