After their 7-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League, Feyenoord are gearing up for their next big match against Ajax on Sunday. Arne Slot is well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the Amsterdammers and is confident going into the game, Voetbal International reports.

“We are very close in terms of quality,” Slot said at the press conference. “John Heitinga has done a great job since taking over at Ajax, but we have been doing well too.

In the end, it’s the quality of the individual that will make the difference. There’s a lot of anticipation for this match, but regardless of the result, the next eight games are just as important.”

Slot believes that Sunday’s match will be an entertaining and high-pressure affair as just three points separates the two sides .

He added: “If you’ve been following us, you know we won’t be taking it easy. But Ajax won’t be either. We both want to have the ball. The last time we played, the match wasn’t great, but the pressure was very high quality.”

Heitinga has been doing a great job since taking over at Ajax, and the team is back to its usual form.

“He’s doing more than well. Seven games, seven wins. It’s always difficult to come in halfway through, but the team is back to its usual self and you can see the quality they have.”

Heitinga has already said he knows Feyenoord’s weaknesses, and Slot also knows where Ajax’s weak spots are.

“In crosses and set pieces, there may be some opportunities for us. Ajax are usually very offensive, so every coach will point out that there is a lot of space in transition. But that’s something that Ajax are improving on.”

Marcos López and Quilindschy Hartman are still doubts for Sunday, with López having fallen out of training today but expected to be back on the pitch tomorrow. Hartman is also expected to return to training tomorrow, and Feyenoord are still missing a few players who have been out for a while.
