Arjen Roben has backed Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry to be successful with Bayern Munich but insists they will have to work for it.

The 34-year-old Dutchman will leave the German giants in the summer with the two wingers likely to be tasked with replacing him.

He is confident they will succeed but admits it will be down to their attitude and application just as much as their talent.

“We work and talk together every day, but it’s down to the young players themselves,” Robben told Bayern’s official website.

“You give tips when necessary, because you’ve got the experience in that position. But at the end of the day you have to work things out for yourself. You need to gain experience, work hard, never be satisfied and always try to improve and perform for the team.”

Asked if the duo can reach similar heights to his own illustrious career – Robben has won seven Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern – he is hopeful.

“I hope from the bottom of my heart they do, but it’s down to the them,” he explained.

“They have a long journey ahead of them, but they have plenty of talent.

“When you speak about our positions with Serge and King [Coman], they’re two very good players. They want to improve, they want to prove themselves and they work hard. They’ve got great character, too. That pleases me. I hope they develop more in this way and play an important role in the club.”
