When asked about Gundogan’s statement, though, Araujo refused to comment, stating, “I prefer to keep what I think to myself. I have codes and values that must be respected.”

Gundogan did not hold back when highlighting Araujo’s foul that led to a red card and killed Barcelona’s chances in the game. His scathing criticism, though, was received well within the Barcelona camp.

Talking about the foul itself, Araujo said, “I am sad, like all Barcelona fans, because of the red card. The shot was 50-50 and the referee made the decision. It hurts.”

After the game, Araujo issued an apology to Barcelona fans and his teammates for making the foul that decimated his team to ten men.

Doubling down on his apology, Araujo added, “To the young fans of Barcelona, I tell them we are very sorry and that is how football is.”

Araujo, though, is hopeful as Barcelona prepare for the highly-anticipated Clasico this weekend. He is also confident about Barça’s chances in the Champions League next season.

“We are Barcelona and we have a very good young group, which will fight for the Champions League next year, and I am sure we will bring them a lot of joy,” he said.

Talking about the Real Madrid game this weekend, the defender said, “We treat El Clásico as an important revenge. We must change our mentality and we have a chance to compete for the league, which is the competition that remains for us. I think we have the chance to win El Clásico.”

Araujo also pointed out that the fight for the league title is not over yet. “We have to fight the League until the end. If we win, we will cut points. There are mathematical options and we have to fight,” he said.

Araujo is happy at Barcelona

Araujo went on to talk about his future at Barcelona, even revealing that the contract renewal talks are going well.

The truth is that it’s going well. The club has started talks with my agents. We are thinking about these games and what remains of the season. And when the season is over, they will sit down and talk. he said.

“The future is always talked about, and it will be like that every year, but I am very happy in Barcelona, my family is happy here. I show it on the field by giving my all, and I will fight until the end for Barcelona to return to what it has always been,” Araujo added.

Ronald Araujo’s current contract at Camp Nou expires in 2026, but the defender has been strongly courted by some of Europe’s best clubs, including Bayern Munich.

Barcelona, though, remain keen on keeping hold of the defender and his recent performance against PSG is unlikely to faze the club’s commitment.
